State clearly that this is a violation of international law and that this will seriously impact our ability to trust the US as an international partner going forward. Start drafting policy for reducing economic dependence on the US and reducing their influence and dominance within the EU. Find new allies within the UN that are willing to join us in sanctioning the US for violating international law.

But honestly, a proper condemnation less half-assed than this would already be a huge improvement lol

The problem is that for the time being, US support is pretty much a requirement for continued Ukrainian existence. I don’t like it any more than anyone else, but the situation is pretty shit at the moment. I’m not suggesting that doing anything Trump wants is the way to go either, then he’ll just demand more and more until the EU is dissolved, but I understand why politicians tread carefully.

I’m hoping that increased European defense spending can start making up the difference, but right now it’s an issue, and taking a hard stance that may hurt the people of Ukraine feels more like their call than ours.

Oh, please. Ukraine will still exist without the lands that are currently occupied by Russian forces. War is not peace. The people of Ukraine are being hurt by continued war above anything else. Sending an ever dwindling population of Ukrainian fighters into the meat grinder is not going to win back anything that has already been lost; advances on either side for at least the last year have been slow and costly.

Europe and Ukraine’s interests both lie in diplomacy to end the war; not in ballooning defense spending and further capitulation to US interests as they desperately try to hold on to global hegemony.

The people and leaders of europe need to break through the narrative that sacrificing their dignity, bodies, resources, and wealth to the US war machine is going to do anything other than enrich the few at great expense to the many.

Oh the Kremlin talking points. What makes you think russia will stop? I mean Putin states he won’t, and that the baltics are on the menu too. Then there ate Georgia and Transinistria and Belarus. Should we just let them go to russia? That would show em, right?/s

We need a strong army because the Kremlin are attacking all their neighbours (except china lol) and trump backs out of NATO.

How can you make an accurate assessment of what Russia is going to do when you reject any speech or facts that don’t line up with your worldview; which you haven’t done the investigation to justify; as “Kremlin talking points”?? The evidence to prove something true or false doesn’t cease to exist just because it serves the interests of one side or the other, yet some folks seem to think that this accusation completely absolves them of dealing in reality.

It doesn’t do you any favors to pretend that Russia is the only actor involved that can spin up a narrative to support their actions. If you manage to get brainwashed by briefly considering the opposing point of view in order to understand what makes your own position valid, your initial position must have been standing on pretty shaky ground.

What makes you think russia will stop?

What makes you think they won’t?

Putin has put up numerous deals to stop the invasion, even as far back as two months before it even started, if the US would just agree not to expand NATO onto Russia’s border. Ukraine and the US have rejected these deals. What evidence do you have to say that Russia would violate such an agreement? If you disagree that this conflict is about NATO; what, other than the question of Ukrainian NATO membership, has changed in the last 25 years for Putin to suddenly decide to expand Russia’s borders? If Russia had the will or capacity to do this expansion that you are describing, why would they be offering peace deals?

I mean Putin states he won’t, and that the baltics are on the menu too.

When did Putin say that? I want a direct quote.

Should we just let them go to russia?

No. Do you know what diplomacy is? How a treaty works?

The Kremlin are attacking all their neighbours (except china lol)

That’s news to me. What neighbors has Russia attacked other than Ukraine?

Oh no, somebody that is unable to justify their worldview and instead resorts to thought-terminating cliches when receiving the smallest amount of pushback. How could I have guessed.

Oh well. I suppose the only thing to do is keep the war machine turning with european tax dollars, let it grind up a steady supply of Ukrainian bodies, and pretend that this creates any sort of peace or stability in the region. But I’m the “tankie” lmfao

You do realise that the EU was already divest in itself of US involvement but it’s a slow process. It is not something that can just happen overnight. Information sharing with the United States has already been reduced.

Cut economic and whatever else ties with the aggressor.

At the very least, explicitly say that this is not okay.

Should we also cut economic (and “whatever else”) ties with china, india, marocco, south africa, saudi arabia, and israel among others?

Yeah. We could’ve used our economic power for years and decades to shape the world according to our own lofty goals and morals and we didn’t and now shit’s fucked and we’re scared we’ll have to give up even a bit of our wealth in order to help vulnerable humans in other places. Yay us.

Start with the biggest arsonist and isolate them.

That’s not isolationism though, and a good way to go forward IMO as you can’t attack everyone IMO that would just make everyone work around us.

That goes without saying, we tried to do the French-German peace after WW2 but with the whole world (interlinked economies are supposed to reduce risk of war, which worked onside Europe). Now it’s time to become independent.

Let’s be honest, they should all be trialed for treason, and put before a firing squad, like in the good ol days.

Then we should deal with the global outbreak of war and fascism, the real way.

It needs to be an American who deals with Trump. If anybody else does it they will declare war.
