Remember, this didn’t just happen. It was brought about by tech billionaires backing Trump, each paying him 1 million dollars just to stand behind him on inauguration day, by the Heritage foundation, by wealthy people like JD Vance, and the rest of the administration. This was enabled by a class of people without morals and compassion, who do not care for your country.

That’s why I spent a lot of time last year quitting all US services including reddit. I encourage everyone here to do the same.

US tech companies don’t get another dime from me.

I sold my US based stocks at the start of this administration and put what little money I had in European defense companies. It’s been a good decision so far.

I feel a bit hypocritical, but as someone who is in a US Colony with disdain towards remilitarization and concerns of situation wirsening; what are some good things to back?

In also moving towards a Post-Imperial internet, and haven’t really given then a dime, besides my data when I was none the wiser. Now that I’m more are, I always try to go for more ecological, environmental or good-for-community entities.

Green energy B-corps or nonprofits, mutual aid and union organizing organizations, sustainable tech B-corps, medicine and research groups. This list isn’t only for investment. I understand that to some degree people want to support things while building a portfolio, but there are some things there just for donations and support.

I understand the reluctance to demilitarize, but… what’s the alternative? The Regime has made it crystal clear, they have said it in plain English while being recorded, that they are going to escalate the violence including toward NATO allies.

Assuming the US isn’t able to get him under control, which has certainly been true so far, then the only courses of action available to world powers are to fight back or to bend the knee.

Not trying to pass judgement on you, but even European defense companies’ hands are not clean because most of them supply arms to Israel. I had stocks in Airbus, until later I found out that one of their American subsidiaries make drones, which are then used to kill civilians in Gaza. If the October 7th hadn’t happen and Israel wasn’t going on full rampage, I would have happily remain investing in European defense companies. My only European defense stock remaining is MTU Aero Engine, which has not grown in the past year but still has potential.

Again, I’m not trying to dissuade you to divest, at the end of the day we just want a comfortable life. I mean, with the growing wealth inequality and inflation, working hard and saving alone isn’t enough to keep us comfortable that’s why we invest. My coworker made money from investing In Palantir but I am not really judging him in spite of controversy with the company.

And the USSR did shitty things to innocent people but the US and UK teamed up with them and sent them supplies and weapons because they had a common enemy.

I’m taking money that was earned in the US, taking it out of the US economy, and giving it to people making weapons that will likely be used against the US at some point in the future. I have no qualms about this, and I would do it even more if I was able, even if it gave me no benefit whatsoever

Same here. I have a million things to buy but I’ll be doing that through other outlets that don’t involve Bezos.

Not just tech billionaires, media owners too. This whole slide started with Nixon.
