It’s not even fair. Bosina and Herzegovina has to play against 50 states at the same time.

Also funny: Bosnia and Herzegovina has almost exactly a 100th of the population of the USA.

      3,412,000 vs. 341,784,857

Two old men sitting on a bench. One asks: “Are you going to watch the football game tonight?”
“Who’s playing,” the other asks back.
    “Austria-Hungary,” the first man answers.
“And who will they play against?”

As a Czech, you already know that but the brief democratic Czecho—Slovak Federation (1989-1992) also had a “Hyphen war” (actually just an argument) where Slovakia was not content with the longest dash available and wanted an “and” in the middle, breaking grammatical rules. Greater disagreements later resulted in the countries’ peaceful dissolution on New Year’s Eve 1992.

But the languages are different enough to be distinct despite being largely mutually understandable (you can use Slovak in Czech courts to this day). This means there is no embarrassing doubling or tripling of legally required text like with Slovenian & Not Slovenian & Legally Distinct Not Slovenian.

Unfortunately we US Americans are not particularly strong on the subject of geography. We’ve all heard of Bosnia, but its last name was never mentioned when it was in the news. Most here have never heard of any of the islands you listed except for maybe Trinidad.

No, you implied a reaction like the one in the post isn’t weird since countries don’t often have similar names. I counter the reaction is weird because Bosnia and Herzegowina isn’t an obscure or never heard of country but the reaction is quite stereotypical US-american (as in “conforms to stereotypes”, not in "look, typical US-american).

That actually sounds pretty dope. Make the pitch round with walls (kinda like arena soccer), and that could be fun. You could even do something cool where each goal actually gives points to both the opposing teams so there’s a more strategic dynamic to it.
