Some things for me: marmite + jam on toast together, and name etymology
In the US, almost anyone can walk to the end of their driveway (or some other, similarly close location) and put an envelope in a box. In a matter of days, that envelope can be in any other box at the end of anyone else’s driveway in the US, for less than the cost of a bottle of water.
Most US Americans have no idea how good they have it with the USPS.
Similarly, the investigative arm of the Post Office, the USPIS, is arguably the most powerful agency of the US government, as there are virtually no laws limiting their authority to investigate.
Data privacy.
It is so important to understand the basics at least.
Imagine a not-so-far future where you buy some sweets for your neighbor’s children, and after a while, after somebody has found the remains of the packaging of these sweets somewhere in a streets’s corner, you get a summons to court because they can prove that you were the buyer of this.
The amount of times I heard ‘I have nothing to hide’…
The only correct answer to that is ‘show us your cock, then’.
I was gonna say data privacy as well.
my boyfriend. it’s insane, how kind, smart, and funny he is. but he is so quiet, with almost everyone except me.
This is very sweet ♥️
Spending time being out of reach. The power button is by far my favorite on my phone.
Silence.
Sometimes it’s nice having nothing to interrupt my thoughts. I’ve never understood the concept of ‘too quiet’.
Closeness with friends. You don’t appreciate it until suddenly they’re gone unexpectedly (for one reason or another - but just death).
Pigeons.
We domesticated them and then just discarded them once they were no longer “useful” to us. Now people see them as “sky rats” and are generally pretty shit towards them.
I think they are one of the best birds!
Have you seen that youtuber/tiktoker who has the pet pigeon? flatwavelength
Fun content.
When i hear about how usefuo they were in the past i’m always trying to re-domesticste them.
Fun pigeon fact: they can be trained to distinguish MRI scans of people with cancer from ones that don’t have cancer.
I haven’t but will check it out, thanks for the recommendation. I also didn’t know that about the MRI scans.
I will feed them at any opportunity and always have fresh water in my garden available for them (and the other birds).
Rock Doves
“Sky rats” is good enough for me
That life is priceless
Mine is worthless. Close enough
Knowing exactly where and when to cite a source; what makes for a good one; and then doing it well.
As I learned in college; cite everything.
Fountain pens.
Good one. I wanted to like fountain oens but i’m awful at using them. I can feel the ink on me now, in my memory
The problem with fountain pens is they are like bicycles, drones, airplanes, or motorcycles - you always need just one more.
I don’t mean to be rude but I tried marmite the other day for the first time on a dare and I almost puked. 😥
I can almost guarantee you used too much. It’s a concentrate.
It’s fucking disgusting. I honestly do not understand how anyone could learn to like that taste.
It’s fine. I might just be a broken person
It’s okay, some people like licorice, we all have our defects. 😅
Hot water on tap. Refrigeration including air conditioning. Laundry machines. Bread. Beer. Fresh Air. The Sun!
Lastase pills. Some people don’t know it’s a thing. I wouldn’t be able to eat so many good food like butter, poutine, cheesecake, yoghurt, nachos… I know there are alternatives but they are not the same as the real thing.
*Lactase just in case anyone wants to find it.
indoor plumbing
lol. came to say this. hot/cold clean running water and sewer. This is so beyond belief better than most all other modern things. I could live without internet. I could live without electricity. I could technically live without indoor plumbing but im absolutely going to hate it.
Not having a car with its insurance, repair, fuel etc…
