There are so many new games coming out that even if you don’t want 99% of them you could never play everything you want.
What’s really going on here is that most of us are getting old and busy enough to where we genuinely prefer something familiar regardless of the quality of new games.
I’d still miss the culturally/socially relevant and intellectual games like Life is strange and Silent Hill.
Do I actually have time and energy to play them? No.
Gaming industry collapse doesn’t sound good, I’ve been liking indie games a lot.
Anyone has some runescape-like game to recommend?
I play open source games
Flashpoint Archive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashpoint_Archive
:o
that sounds like an amazing project. i have literally been thinking just yesterday whether i could ever get back the nostalgic (and often crappily made xD) flash games of my youth.
xD and the video on the project website is so iconic xD literally uses music from redacted (guess the game yourself :)).
question: does anyone have a backup of the flashpoint archive itself? in case that one goes down (so, double backup)
Fuck yes I’m so happy people did this. This is art preservation
It’s so fun!
Right now is the best time to play old games. Retro gaming handhelds have never been better, and honestly there’s little to improve in them at this point.
Get yourself a retro handheld for as little as $100, that will feel more premium than a Steam Deck, and start playing games that came out before you were born.
I’ve genuinely forgotten how bad the current video game industry is, because I’m so busy having a blast with older/retro titles.
Highly recommend to all gamers.

how old do you think i am
Kingdom Hearts II is 22 years old. Just picked it back up today.
Still fucking rips.
I’m still playing Rimworld
Regardless, I never spend more than $20 on a game, wait for the “Game of the Year Platinum Super Edition” to go on sale. It works every time!
Indie devs are fucking killing it, though. A lot of bangers have been coming out.
I’m currently obsessed with How Many Dudes? That game is so much fun.
All hail the ability to emulate console games up to a certain generation well enough on even lower end hardware.
Ain’t no other way to officially enjoy classics like Tony Hawk Pro Skater ( best on Dreamcast IMO ). Probably one of the greatest skater games, just behind a game like Skate 2. But maybe that’s the nostalgia talking…

A little wordy as a catch phrase, but I like the sentiment.
What about playing them on the original consoles? I’ve got a Game Cube and PS3 I still use occasionally, and a PS2 that I haven’t tried in a long time but would give it 50/50 for just booting up if I hooked it up, plus some portion of the failure 50% includes the possibility of repairing it.
Original console, in most cases, is probably gonna be the better option IMO. But due to the rising cost of everything, games/consoles included, emulation is better from a purely price saving standpoint. I am lucky enough to have so many consoles, but I still emulate or use console softmods because I can’t afford every game I want.
I also love how emulators make 40 year old games much more playable with features like state save.
Fast forwarding through slow unskippable cutscenes and slow walking parts.
Hey! That’s cheating! (I do it too)
I knowwww but I need to get good at it without spending thousands of hours per game. I have kids and only maybe 30 years left to live lol
No disagreement there, I only responded because of the “ain’t no other way” in your OP.
I remember spending hours watching my friends play that game.
I remembered my family having the ps1 version, but my brother said I was wrong because we apparently had the n64 version.
Either way, was definitely a defining game of my early childhood. Such a fun game. I was lucky enough to find it at a game store where I live. It was for some reason tucked away with the ps1 games and somehow just barely under $20USD before tax! A steal, if you ask me.
Skyrim, Fallout NV, Diablo II, modded to fuck Dungeon Keeper, Age Of Empires II, so many more. I’m set for life
Modded to What?

Sounds dope, though. Enjoy your peace, king
I know nothing of the Diablo 2 modding scene but there better be a sex mod.
There’s sex mods for Rimworld so I wouldn’t be surprised.
Wololo!
Everyone about that GTAVI life while I’m in the Fire Emblem and Yakuza mines trying to make a dent in the 50 million games each of those series have, because every time I finish one they release three more
Japan…please…stop…I beg you. I feel as overworked as the devs working for you.
I am a man dying of thirst watching another drown. Smashes skull in Fallout borne frustration
I’m having a blast with all of the old God of War games currently. 🥰
i tried so hard to get them to work on my ps2. those damn gold discs.
i can emulate a ps2 now. thanks for the idea.
All of them have PS3 ports (God of War Collection Vol. 1+2), even the PSP games.
God of War III even got a PS4 remaster. :)
i was a fool and went xbox that generation because of the online bullshit. i had to “make a point with my wallet” it’s not like i enjoy online games anyways.
i should boot mine up and play costume quest tho, that was fun
