I mean, originally, Pepe just really liked to take his pants all the way down to take a piss.

This is the literal original Pepe.
… feels good man.
Pepes are just an advanced version of emoji, they can be used to express almost any idea.
Of course you’re going to get some variety.
Walkable city: Here’s your tiny foot traffic lane. Be sure to watch for skateboards while you leave your lane to go around the columns supporting the train line.
From comics about pissing with your pants down to alt-right co-opts to reclamation with Hong Kong democracy protests, this little frog has been and seen some shit.
Prohibiting symbols always gives them more power.
As if “Pepe is nazi now” was not more culture war bullshit.
Pretending the meme wasn’t being used in a large part by /pol/ scum is cope
Because it’s an internet meme, not because it’s a nazi symbol. Pretending they owned it in any way is just stupid
From the original creator of the character.
From Boy’s Club comics to appropriated alt right symbol (WT actual F tho), Pepe has often been misunderstood.
That’s why we work with his creator Matt Furie to make the only officially licensed Pepe toy out there. Feels good man.
Proceeds help Matt Furie fight Nazis
They tried to take pepe frogs like they did the OK gesture.
Pissing. It started with a comic where the frog learns to piss, AFAIK.
NGL I think it was the other way around…
There was some drama in a discord I was in years ago over it. Not a lot of people knew about its origins and the mod staff in the server banned it from the memes channel without saying anything.
It’s a meme. I don’t think there’s canon story to the frog, both good and bad can use it for whatever purpose
I mean, there is a canon story
There’s a documentary on Pepe that includes the original artist, if you’re interested in the story. both the fictional canon and real life arc.
Pepe definitely became a mascot of the alt-right for a time
As far as I recall, the whole declaration that it was a hate symbol was pretty misinformed to begin with.
It was originally used by tons of people online, particularly by quite a lot of 4chan users. So it got mostly used for weird memes like ones about adult man children earning good boy points towards chicken tenders and being socially inept, and sometimes for weird alt-right bullshit.
Then during the horrid mess of GamerGate (which has direct ties to a handful of current rightwing grifters gaining popularity), at one point some rights advocacy group labelled it a hate symbol due to the association with GamerGate by way of 4chan. I mean sure, hateful movement, right? But they were using it like people use stick figures. In my opinion Pepe was more the medium than the message, and it wasn’t so overwhelmingly used for hate like twitter/x that you could legitimately make the argument that it hands down was a dog whistle or only used by those who would tolerate the hateful views.
Then again, I was a heavy 4chan user many many years ago (dropped off during the scientology raids), so my point of view is probably skewed.
I get that for a while a lot of the internet stopped using it due to the negative associations and news articles citing the original claim by the advocacy group, but it makes me happy to see the awkward little frog being “reclaimed” for general use again.
Disagree, Pepe and Kekistan were intertwined with the alt-right for a hot minute and while it didn’t originate there it lingers.
It’s sick to see it being “taken back” but that doesn’t make my point less valid, it was a mascot for a hot minute.
I’m with prettybunnys, I remember these and 100s of ban evasion subs, they were NOT thinly veiled racism/antisemitism it was outright. r/frenworld r/clownworld r/honker r/clownworldwar
Hostile take-overs are a bitch
Maybe the bike lanes are nazis too.
