diskworld series have some, but need more imo
I demand more Rincewind content.
Ted Chiang - The Stories of Your Life and Exhalation (minus Story of Your Life, since Denis Villeneuve knocked that out of the park, IMO). The other short stories in those collections are great and could make a great mini series.
I bought this recently and was unimpressed, it might have been oversold but it seemed just ok to me. Nothing stayed and exhalation was om the lower end of the lot.
The first two Hyperion books
Once you read it you realize it’s influenced SO MUCH and it would be pretty epic now that’s e have the tech to do something at that scale
Dictionary (Based on the Book by Merriam Webster)
The epic sequel will be simply, THESAURUS.
My therapist’s notes on our sessions
In black and white, French, Subtitled.
Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stevenson. But keep it the modern stuff as part of the ninties at the Dawn of the Information Age.
That was written like they hoped it would be made into a movie. I found it one of the drawbacks to the book.
Pierce Brown’s Red Rising
John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War book series. Apparently it’s been optioned for 15+ years now, but nobody’s actually gotten around to making the damned thing yet.
“Malazan book of the Fallen” by Steven Erikson. An Epos that dwarfs the whole of LotR.
Or an animated series of all Discworld novels…
After watching Foundation and then reading Foundation… Foundation. It could easily be done as an anthology. And as a recently Rekindled weeb, it would be fantastic as a well done anime. Really cannot understand what the Apple TV pus thing was going for other than “let’s just tell a copletely different story and co-opt the name. (Man that’s never been done before right?)
The Bobiverse books by Dennis E. Taylor, and The Shadow of the Leviathan series by Robert Jackson Bennett. These are two series I would love to see rendered as animated or live action stories.
+1 for Bobiverse. Almost done with Book 1 and surprised it has been done already.
most dont even stay true to the source material, unless the original writer is on board, even then they can be influenced by executives, like with sandman. with the obvious thing happened with lucifer and death.(not true to the source, only the words were)
invincible is another, with tech jacket, even with the creator on board.
on one hand, series like nutrek just straight up plagiarizes fan novels without giving credit.
But occasionally it can stray far enough away to become its own different great thing like Resident Alien
resident alien seems good, except for the 3rd one i think. they had to cancel that show.
I’d love to see The Dispossessd in film but only if it was made by people who share the same anarchist/communist ideological commitment. If Hollywood tries it you know that part will be taken out, which would take the entire heart and soul out of it.
I don’t think you could take out the anarchist stuff and keep any cohesion to the story. Unless Hollywood wants to make a movie about how an anarchist learned the true value of capitalism and power of friendship.
It would make for an amazing series, but you are right in that it needs to be made by not Hollywood. Perhaps find someone to make it a web series?
Alex Rider 100%
There’s a pulp sci-fi series that I’ve been reading, “Backyard Starship”. Basically good-guy Space Sherrif takes on big and small problems in known space with a big variety of aliens. Fun stories and plenty of action. IMO it definitely needs an anime-style version.
