We were headed down the conservative path, strange to think that the Trump regime saved our asses by being so insufferably horrible that the entire country woke up. Very grateful today that we have a functional adult behind the wheel during this difficult period
Liberals won by less than a million votes.
Does this map suggest that is going to happen again?
Some Americans avoided voting for Democrats because Israel.
Some Canadians avoided voting liberal because “we need change.”.
It stops being politics when neo-fascists take over. Then it becomes survival. When your government wages war on YOU, the people.
Just ask the Americans.
We’re still heading towards a conservative path, although a more moderate one, with carney being center-right, and the conservatives holding almost half the seats.
I… I can’t envision a world where conservatism doesn’t beget more conservatism…
What a strange utopia you Canadians have

Still, over 40% of Canadians voters wanted pp. That number is too high. Also fuuuuuuuuck fptp
Most wanted change and not Peter rabbithair.
We need electoral reform in Canada.
Over 40% wanted some aspect of the vote. Local Candidate, party or leader or other aspects. His own riding didn’t want him. Lol! :D
Others still just didn’t like the other parties as options. Extreme fringe elements like the various flavours of white supremacists just clung to something that would embrace them under the big tent.
Extreme fringe elements like the various flavours of white supremacists just clung to something that would embrace them under the big tent.
You’re correct, but because the leaders of the party aren’t actively distancing themselves from those fringe groups, they are complicit
Absolutely. I did say “embraced”.
Well that and Lil’PP not being able to distance himself from his “Trump-lite” image because that would have turned away a big chunk of his base.
Good job Canada voting sensibly!
P.S. Sorry from America.
Thanks for voting in Trump so we didn’t get Pierre Poilievre
I came here to also give kudos to Canada. Well said
Yeah, it’s a shame how many people didn’t vote.
America has given the planet one final gift. An example of what not to turn your country into. Australia is next, and their conservative moment is dying out as well.
Our conservative movement didn’t die out, they got more votes this time than the last few times and the popular vote was split down the middle.
We have more right wing media than centrist or neutral or left wing combined, and much of it is USA owned.
This all happened at the expense of the moderate left and the extreme right. If we don’t ditch our first past the post electoral system we risk Americanized politics.
yes but the maga flavour of conservatism got the leader of its party tossed twice over
This has many similarities to how the Canadian Federal election ended up. The conservatives actually grew by more than any other group, the Liberals just barely got a minority win. Their gain came at the sacrifice of our 3 other major parties (though almost always smaller than the other 2), turning Canada more into a 2 party running. Ranked choice is sorely needed to save our multi-party system, but the 2 big parties fear they’ll both lose big of they implement that, and they’re probably right…
yes I Am Canadian, bud
Ah, sorry for any confusion.
i want to believe this so i hope that you some articles to back this up.
Mexico and Canada politicians: “It’s good to have a common enemy”
America: “We’re the common enemy?”
Like when the Dimoks and Ripoblus finally united.
It’s not a betrayal. Americans - particularly conservatives - have always held contempt for the Canadian government and its people. Trump said the quiet part out loud. But all those jokes about “America’s Hat” and “51st State” were coming from people who genuinely do not see Canada as a sovereign territory or an independent constituency.
Hopefully, Canadians are waking up to the reality that huge swaths of America view them with the same contempt more explicitly aimed at Mexicans, Cubans, Haitians, Indians and other browner neighbors and migrant workers. We’re an evil empire, and you collaborate with us at your own peril.
I’ve never experienced any negative opinions of Canada until the current administration. Instead, everyone I have encountered saw Canadians as remarkably similar to Americans (but much nicer) and held them in high regard.
I’ve been stunned by the change in some members of the population, especially church-goers.
People go to church explicitly to be told how to think and feel so they don’t have to, and they can feel like they belong. That this group was susceptible should not surprise anyone.
You’re not wrong! I worded that poorly. It should have read:
especiallymostly (all?) church-goers
Sadly I doubt many are seeing this considering how many of my neighbours still voted for PP. I’m happy to see a Liberal minority, but disgusted by how much support the cons still have.
Canada is still awash in far-right mass media. A lot of it is coming from over the border, to boot. Until Canadians liberate themselves from the American yoke, they’re going to be force fed this trash to their detriment indefinitely.
A guy near my home is flying two American flags in front of his house. The thing is, we’re in Canada…
When we send our media, we’re not sending our best. :(
I’ve heard us called snow ni**ers by Americans more than once. It’s disgusting. They truly think they are exceptional.
America is lead by Benedict Orange Turd.
So you think the 40% is all made up of conservatism or could it be disillusion with what the parties are offering?
Is it really support of conservative? Even labelling it as support of far right when people are frustrated and choosing to protest vote can have a tone of condescension which can do more harm than good.
I am as annoyed as everyone else about the orange turdbag but ignoring root causes (in any country) is gonna eventually take a toll.
so what is it that they want? and why does it seem our resposibility to figure out and please these grown people who can’t articulate their demands?
suddenly it seems that badgering lgbt and minorities is something we owe these people
Considering almost all Canadian media is owned by the US and the desperate push for PP by propagandists, I think it turned out about as good as can be expected.
30% of the population are just terrible people who are easily swayed by lies and propaganda (the same as in other countries). The rest are just regular Conservative “I’ve got mine” shitheads.
The solution is to stop the propaganda, not appease the idiots or we’ll end up like the US anyway. Canada already has the laws it just has to enforce them.
Good job Canada!!!
