My local Costco prices everything at 88 cents because it’s in a heavily Chinese neighborhood and the number 8 is considered lucky to them.

I looked at their last 4 flyers, 5 if you count the spanish version as well. This was the only one that stood out.
There was no heavy use of 14 or 88 in any of the other ones. Even looked at the front page of each and I believe 88 showed up once.

Otherwise, specifying that the ads were run in that specific sub seemed unnecessary. Could be wrong, but the OP itself doesn’t seem like a Reddit ad either (single image rather than a webpage or something)
