See if you can figure out which is which

    PRINCE - GETT OFF:

“I clocked the jizz from a friend Of yours named Vanessa Bet (Bet) She said you told her a fantasy  That got her all wet (Wet) Something about a little box with a  Mirror and a tongue inside What she told me then got me so hot I knew that we could slide”

JEFF BUCKLEY - LOVER YOU SHOULD’VE COME OVER:

“Looking out the door I see the rain Fall upon the funeral mourners Parading in a wake of sad relations As their shoes fill up with water”

If you had tolde “Lover you should’ve come over” was also a Prince song, I’d 100% have believed it.

Sleeze: WiseIntelligent - My First Shot is about the loss of innocence and cascading events that shape a persons life. It feels like a downward spiral into the shame that specifically comes from hurting people with ignorance

Depression: My Chemical Romance - The Foundations of Decay is about giving up on trying to get better, resigning to slow death, and discovering you were never the sort of person who could improve things for yourself or other people. It feels like a personal callout to moralistic millennials.

Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan is probably the best sleazy song to listen to.

They wrote a lot of songs from the POV of questionable characters, because they were fascinated that such songs were played in public (e.g the dentists’ or the supermarket) without anyone taking note of what the lyrics said. And also - i guess they’re just interesting? exploring different kind of peoples’ character and experiences.

At the same time, Hey 19 is supposed to capture a feeling that a lot of us feel… Just growing old. Being out of touch with your date. Distracting yourself from your malaise with a bit of dancing and hedonism.

Favourite Depressing song: No Surprises by Radiohead is the only song i actually find depressing and regularly listen to. There are a lot of other songs, some i like more, which are emo or sad in some way, but the fact that those people can sing about their feelings makes it better, a sort of triumph. Hence they don’t qualify as depressing.
