I’m Indigenous and I grew up in northern Ontario in a hunter and gatherer family of hunters and trappers. We did wake up at 4am to go travel, work, set things up, gather and maintain equipment … so that everything was set for the day. Then when the day came, you know what? … we sat around and rested as much as we could which was hours of just resting. Because evening would come and you had to prepare for the night. Then rinse and repeat.
Apex shit was all about conserving energy to survive. If nothing was happening, you rested as long and as much as possible because there will come a time when you will need to expend a terrible amount of energy in a short period of time to get work done, to carry out a hunt or to remedy a serious problem.
If you are expending energy all day, every day non stop … you’re doing it for someone else’s benefit and you will burn yourself out.
As far as I know, it’s about endurance with our ancestors
Because we can sweat. And with that, we can run longer without overheating.
There are still some people in Africa hunting their prey that way.Everything else came afterwards. Not sure about the timelines, so can’t say how much impact evolutionary selection has - but would be a very uneducated guess anyway
True … but even African hunters in the hot weather aren’t tracking and running down prey every hour of the day every day … hunting animals, especially large animals is a one time event. It’s done once, provides a big source of food, the food gets processed, hopefully preserved for a while and it nourishes people for a period of time, usually several days or even weeks … then the hunters restart the process again.
What many people ignore about the whole hunter / gatherer lifestyle is the amount of hunger and starvation that goes along with it. Just because someone says they are a full time hunter … doesn’t always mean that they are capable of going into the wilderness, finding an animal, killing it and eating it that day. It is all dependent on luck and if the resources are available at the time … and that can change due to weather, timing, seasons, cycles and a dozen other things. Before the modern era, my parents had stories of starvation and famine happening here in northern Ontario 70/80 years ago.
There’s a reason why human evolution moved into the agricultural revolution because it was a more stable food source for everyone.
Hunting and gathering is always glorified as the epitome of apex human activity … but no one ever counts the millions and millions of hunter/gatherers that died along the way because they were just unlucky and couldn’t find enough food.
That’s a lot of words to say “I’m a squirrel”.
(kidding)
I’m not an expert, but isn’t that a very vague analogy to horse power and torque?
Torque = the power right at the moment you need it, hp = overall. In most cases, you get hp displayed at the car dealers as a selling point.
Not really, no. They measure different but related things, torque isn’t actually a measure of power, unless you also know the RPM.
It’s over 9000!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist ;) Thanks for the good answer, though.
Unironically, alpha male shit is a psyop from big corporations to encourage employees to work harder in the hopes of getting imaginary super-raises.
Yup. It came out that Clavicular has been funded by Peter Thiel. I was watching a guy do a marketing breakdown of a “clip farms”. Where top streamers pay people to clip their videos and upload them to flood the algorithm. PirateSoftware, Asmongold … like a lot of streamers use this service to surface to the top.
I think he did a breakdown of Clavicular and he was like, someone has poured a lot of money into getting this guy noticed.
The way that it’s so impossible to tell what’s organically popular and what’s just a hype campaign is honestly so maddening, it’s not as blatant as what they do with political campaigns but it is still an attack on democratic pluralism in a really significant way imo
e; ‘pluralism’? where tf did you even remember that from - searches -
Pluralism thus tries to encourage members of society to accommodate their differences by avoiding extremism (adhering solely to one value, or at the very least refusing to recognize others as legitimate) and engaging in good faith dialogue.
I mean, sure, but just not with genocidal people, right?
One of the more famous arguments for institutional pluralism came from [noted slavery advocate and slave owner] James Madison in The Federalist paper number 10
Maaaann, I hate politics
Idk how it is with PirateSoftware nowadays. I haven’t gotten any clips from him or about him after 1) some stupid WoW drama 2) and especially after his stupid ass takes on Stop Killing Games.
Either way I militantly curate my YouTube feed anyways so
I’ve seen a few of his more recent clips. He’s still playing games on livestream and giving out advice. Obviously with a much smaller audience.
I’ve never really followed him that closely to begin with. I would like to think he’s a good guy that has dumb opinions on certain topics. However, I also don’t care enough to dig into it deeper.
I curate my feed too. I also watch only one short or have to select it myself. I refuse to scroll shorts one after the other.
The study that the whole alpha/ beta dynamic comes from was studying caged wolves in a zoo.
So limited territory, resources and mates.
Its essentialy prison social dynamics. Makes sense thats what theyd be trying to push in general society- keep people competing for the artificially scarce resources, instead of trying to wrestle back control of said resources from tbe corporations/ their owners
Yes, it’s just “influencer shit”.
I squirrelmax because I’m acorn pilled.
This guy nuts.

So are we all. ✊🏼
I’m a software developer. For me, “alpha” means somethings that’s still buggy, unfinished and unfit for wide availability.
i’m a wannabe software developer. to me, alpha is when you’re bored of using latin letters
I study ancient languages. Alpha is just a letter of the alphabet.
Wrong. Beta means that. Alpha means “set everything on fire.”
I’m not saying that you’re wrong. I’m saying we have different definitions. Cheers!
I’m a hobby software developer and a fan of reading a lot of about physics. To me, “alpha” means an highly unstable configuation with massive amount of over optimistic excitement and just one wrong nudge will have catastrohic emmission of high energy photons and sounds. But it all decays away eventually and reaches stable state. xD
People concerned with how alpha they are are so silly. So hilariously unaware that they are broadcasting just how deeply insecure they are.

Silly question, but why is being insecure bad again?
Being insecure is fine. Being insecure and then never shutting up about how great you are and how everyone should be like you is deeply annoying. Lie to yourself if it makes you feel better; everyone does that. But don’t insist I should be part of it.
Interesting. Yeah, don’t bother with validation from others, that is just a vulnerability for others to exploit.
The Crit Role “RTA” bit is relevant here, I feel, and no familiarity w/ the series req’d! 🤘🏼
(FYI: spoilers abound for any newbies looking up that years-long pay-off, but it’s worth it, IMHO.)
Well squirrels are also strong enough to crack the earth in half, I watched it in a documentary.

You mean to tell me that the people at the top, who confidently know they have already won, don’t run around like desperate insecure dickheads trying to prove that they are the most valuable worker bee?
On a more serious note, they represent and propagate some of the worst parts of our culture, especially in the US.
According to them (and most of my upbringing) the indicators of leading a good life include money, possessions, greed, excess, and dominating others.
Things that are actually good for us are seen as being crutches for the weak. You know, like community, healthy relationships, generosity, and fulfilling work/hobbies.
I would say it propagates conservative values like innate hierarchy and your worth as a human being equal to your economic output, but plenty of people who don’t consider themselves conservatives get wrapped up in it.
I like squirrels.
It’s more like love-hate for me. They’re terribly cute and they do play an important ecological role.
But they are destructive little shits. Mercilessly and needlessly destroying homes, gardens, and at times even vehicles. Their reigns of terror are expensive and tough to mitigate. And with so few remaining natural predators, their populations quickly grow to near plague levels quite rapidly. May your tomato plants be damned.
Stop chasing away the coyotes, corvids, raptors, snakes, or pretty much any mid-tier predator, then. Coexist > consume.
You phrase that like you are accusing me of something specific and making wild assumptions, but it’s clear you know nothing about me, so it’s really bizarre that you’d say such a thing to me. Like why phrase it that way? I mean, I am totally on board with protecting predators and I get the message, but why be so aggressive with your messaging to me? It makes no sense and it’s kind of rude.
The reaction was based on your comments, not your person. Maybe re-read those, and take a breath. Good luck.
I like turtles
if apes hadn’t been faster, squirrels would rule the Earth
Best advice I’ve seen in a long time.
When I wake up in the morning and do my bike rides or lifting, I feel great throughout the day and have more energy. You don’t have to be alpha to know a bit if excersice is great and I think you’ll find makes you feel better for the rest of the day
Nah, I never feel better after I work out. Just tired and kind of shitty. Having to go to work afterwards would make me want to walk into traffic.
Yeah that’s why I work out after work
Same and overall I do feel better. Just not immediately during/afterwards.

That’s fairly privileged of you. Millions upon millions aren’t able to do what you do so nonchalantly, fellow human. Enjoy your own circumstances for what they are to you, but let’s not imply that it’s “easy” for anyone else to do the same. ✊🏼
ACHKTUALLY
Insufferable people just out to argue unrelated shit. I IMPLIED, IMPLIED!!!
You forgot to fight for the crippled you monster.
Aww, did someone drop his binkie? 🤣🖕🏼
Don’t worry, I’m sure someone’ll stick up for you, one of these days, kiddo. Keep being you. It’s going great.

Gotta get that nut either way!
some folks live to get a nut. nothing to cry over
Cortisol addicts, all of them
Squirrel girl is op tho.

Squirrel-core must be hardcore.
Squirrel Girl is dangerously attractive for all the best reasons my doc warned me about. 😶
You also had to visit a nut doctor?

Did I choose poorly by believing her that she was a nut doctor?
(It’s for all the best reasons!)

…is the most fun Matt Damon.

Also, let’s be fair: if wishes were coming true, I’d never trust myself not to ask for a whole passel o’ her, knowing full-well the djinn’d get clever and put them all in the same body. 🤌🏼
I wouldn’t complain, but still. Ancient Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times”, and all that.😅
