I still can’t stop but think how stretched out the Hobbit films were, for an otherwise short book. That’s a sin that stains forever with me. The Lord of the Rings films, do have their own flaws, but they’re fairly contained and can be debated as to whether they were good or not. I have so much trouble excusing anything with the Hobbit though.
And I hope we never, ever see anyone tackle The Silmarillion. Simply because, there will be so much improvised fluff in that would-be film, that it’d make the Hobbit films blush.
Media or entertainment? Kinda different animals.
Pretty much any book-to-movie adaptation. 90% are awful. It’s a rare case when they’re better or equal adaptations.
General media? The spinelessness of our news organizations across the board. A free press doesn’t exist, they bend a knee to their corporate billionaire overlords. They don’t tell the whole truth, they hold back, they don’t call a spade a spade. They should be part of the apparatus protecting the common person from the bullshit the rich and government try to sweep under the rug. At best, they’re complicit in their silence, at worst they’re active participants aiding the rich.
The original plan was to make two Hobbit movies, but after the release of the first one they decided to expand it to three. I think two movies would have been alright, although the whole thing was way too intense and violent and digital.
I actually maybe wouldn’t have minded two movies. Then again, I say it should’ve been one 3-hour long film and given the extended treatment the LOTR films got. It’d be one long, but eventful movie.
Anything star trek after ST:Enterprise
The movies were all dumbed down pew pew flare flare versions of previous star trek movies, the series were horrendously dumb and badly written, in a show that is about the stories, ethics, morale, etc.
It was awful and the only shining light was the series “The Orville” by Seth McFarlane who is a huge star trek fan and it shows.
Lower Decks was brilliant tho
Creating consent for the Gaza genocide
Cable “news”. It is entirely responsible for the current state of things.
I cannot forgive the fact that we had two times of writer strikes. They literally make your gold. What the fuck are yall doing
Are videogames media also ye? Cause I can think of many many examples that I could honestly just do a new post about it
The question was meant to be broad.
I have so much trouble excusing anything with the Hobbit though.
The song “I see fire” was good, if you think of it singing about a volcano eruption/nuke instead of Smaugh.
Here, try this: https://m4studios.github.io/hobbit-book-edit/
Was gonna mention this. Cuts about half of each film into one 4 hour film, and is incredibly well done imo. I watch it a few times a year, if it didn’t exist I don’t think I would have rewatched the trilogy at all.
There are two edits that are worth checking out. My fav is the one that leaves only what was in the books. It’s the only thing that’s made the movie watchable for me.
This post seems like a sin. No details, no names, no links, no nothing.
The Hobbit fan edits that cut out all the crap.

(Love the meme)
They just released yet another spinoff last month

I haven’t forgiven the fact that the Star Wars sequel trilogy doesn’t include more of Anakin
Everything star wars since disney has touched it. Mostly making the books non cannon.
It’s quite the opposite.
Every time a company does a tax write off and trashes the film. If they’re canning it, it’s ours. It’s public domain. Take it as a loss, we subsidize it, then it’s ours. Coyote vs Acme is the unicorn that got released. It should never have been thrown away.
The abdication of the 4th estate in guarding the public interests and freedoms people fought and died for.
LotR should have been 6 movies and The Hobbit should have been 1
There was enough material for 3 if you include the long part of mirkwood wandering around and then sneaking around the elf camp and Beorn.
Fox screwing Firefly with that stupid broadcast schedule (although it was cancelled before Joss could make it weird)
Star Wars: A LOT of things, but I’ll focus on Episode 9 being absolute dog shit
Game of Thrones, I don’t think I need to expand on it
Probably the most unforgivable thing is the legacy and ongoing sexual exploitation of minors in the entertainment industry, but I don’t think that’s what OP had in mind
It would have gotten so weird with Joss! Now it gets to live in my brain where it only gets mildly weird!
On the other hand, a drinking game based on how often there’s a close-up of bare feet would have developed
