I worked in retail for 7 years. Every damn Sunday we would get at least one customer in their Sunday best turn into an impatient, vile, insulting human being towards us because of something in the weekly ad or whatever. I wasn’t particularly religious despite attending Catholic school for every grade until high school graduation, but this solidified my loss of faith even more.

Oh, and it was a tiny bit of an influence on me becoming an alcoholic too! Yay!

That’s why I like being on ad every sunday, no matter what, I was out of the building before 12pm. No nightmare grandma’s for me.

This church group used to come in sunday afternoons. No reservation. At least 12 people. Separate checks. They’d sit for over an hour and have a meeting with their pastor. None of them tipped or if they did they rounded up to the nearest dollar.

Lost my wallet today at a grocery store full of church dressed people. Locked the cards, then saw two usage attempts on two different cards. Of course, maybe it wasn’t one of the people who had just came from church…

It could easily be someone who goes to church. My church has a community meal and a food pantry, and a lot of people who are welcome and who come for church services are homeless or food-insecure or addicts. And honestly anything that isn’t locked up walks away way too often. Jesus called for the church to serve the hurting and broken and needy so it shouldn’t be a surprise. You know what though? A lot of those people are willing to volunteer time and even give a little when they can.

But the rich assholes that don’t tip and treat their servers like shit, they usually don’t help the church at all in any way. Maybe they throw in $20 a couple times a year to appease their conscience. Continue berating them by all means.

I mean you don’t know. While you’re getting all new stuff…try a phone wallet app. I only have 1 physical CC in my wallet plus some cash if needed. The tap to pay uses a dummy CC#, it’s very secure, so even if stores get hacked your info is safe. A lot of people don’t know this…phone wallet app is very very safe.

I have 1 physical CC but have access to all 5 CCs via phone wallet app for tap to pay.

Also recommend a small front pocket wallet. Easier on the back, it’s less prone to slipping out/getting stolen, and if you’re looking for a brand-specific recommendation I like Trayvax with its 65-yr heirloom warranty. It’s a wallet for life. 🙂

Good on you locking the cards via their apps. 👍👍👍

Actually how I paid for groceries. I’ve also already replaced the card via app and it was instantly available for my wallet app too. Gonna try using that more and see how comfortable I am with bringing less or no ccs with me. A few stores I hit still can’t tap, but they are much less now.

As for the front wallet, kinda actually the issue. I haven’t put my wallet in back pocket for years. Most of my pants have a zippable side/leg pocket that I put the wallet in, but today I wore different pants so used front pocket, but using a belt clip on the pocket lip(the main wallet on the inside). I thought I’d feel if it came out but I was wrong.

I still will go for something small, and likely never use the clip part. I’ll check out the brand you mentioned.

I am not religious, and I am not old, but this does not sit right with me. I don’t know who the person in photo is, but we are “hating” on them just because they look old?

I understand it is a “meme” and i should laugh at “stereotypical karen” but is not that one of the things that people state they disliked about reddit?

The meme is not about the specific person in the photo. You’re not supposed to hate the specific person in the photo. It’s about the type of person described in the text and the picture is just a stand-in for those people.

This type of Christian is very real and numerous and make service workers lives much harder. This meme, I believe, is by and for the people who are effected by their attitudes.

I think you might not enjoy the meme because you haven’t had experience with this type of Christian. That’s okay. Not every meme has to be for everyone. But please, don’t let your takeaway be that we hate the specific woman in from the photo.

my take away was never hating person in photo (that part was just in case we are hating the person in photo, but my second para in the original comment is what i got - old relegious person is rude to service worker). I have not experienced it, so i can not relate, sorry.

It’s not about being old. Or a women. Or a driver. Or white. This is about Christians and more widely religious hypocrisy. Christianity preaches tolerance, humility, not judging others, and yet these are the same people who gave trump the power. Objectively and according to the bible, this guy is the fucking antichrist: luxury, vanity, greed, adultery, etc. name a sin and he has made it an art of living. So yeah, fuck them all.

Age isn’t really a factor in the way you’re perceiving it here.

There’s a very large population of US Christians who think it’s a sin to work on Sunday but who also go out to eat in restaurants when they leave church. That particular population of Christians is pretty demanding and on the whole are bad tippers.

I grew up going to several of those churches. If my mom had to work her retail job on a Sunday, the Church Ladies™ would tut about it and say what a shame it was for her to be working on The Lord’s Day™. But then they would turn right around and head out for lunch at the nearest buffet restaurant where they’d run the server ragged for two hours and leave a dollar or two as a tip on their entire bill. They never understood how hypocritical their actions were.
