Nice job, ABC. Guess that merger was worth losing all your credibility, huh?

Beyond this being another obvious step towards a bastard combo of 1944 and 1984, I’m once again faced with the same question I’ve had for the last decade: how the fuck can anyone hear this guy talk and think “yeah, that’s a leader”? He has the temperament and vocabulary of a pissy 5 year old, the memory and general cognitive performance of a dementia patient, and the ideological consistency of a magic 8 ball.

MAGA are genuinely the stupidest group of individuals that have ever collectively organized.

Rich geriatric white business goon is the archetypical American Bossman. Guys like him are everywhere, especially in the scloratic journalism industry.

MAGA are genuinely the stupidest group of individuals that have ever collectively organized.

They hate their current system and they don’t seem to care who gets hurt tearing it up.

You can call that stupid. You can call it angry. But it’s horrifyingly effective.

Meanwhile, smug posting liberal hecklers and don’t-rock-the-boat centrists are at least as stupid. And “The Left” - such that it exists - is either too terrified or too feeble to fight back.

Part of it is that they genuinely don’t watch or care. They just learned they like trump and will continue to say so. Never forget just how many people didn’t even know Biden wasn’t fucking running last year. There has been a massive culture (on Both Sides) of “don’t watch the news for your mental health” that just puts people in isolation chambers where they occasionally hear something.

And the other aspect? He is them. Boomers are increasingly senile every single year and he is a boomer ass boomer. But also? Just look around on social media or in stream chats and so forth. A LOT of people sound like they speak English as a Second Language… until you realize they are making references to nickelodean shows and may even have comments or posts outright saying they are a native. They just are fucking illiterate (and this applies from boomers on down but is just a major crisis for genz/alpha because they might have a chance).

Also odds on someone thinking they are “witty” for saying this is “TLDR”? Because… think about the implications of “you talk too much” as an insult.

And that isn’t just their illiteracy. We mostly tend to skew middle/upper-middle/upper class around here. Spend some time actually communicating with “support staff” (e.g. custodial) or even talking to someone at a supermarket or fast food joint. The “Gen Z Stare” is definitely a thing but it isn’t just Gen Z and it is very much people who do not know how to communicate or articulate a thought literally locking up. THAT is trump.

I remember back when the problem was that people glazed Jed Bartlet and it had to be explained to them that real human beings don’t have script writers to make every single word they say deeply beautiful and intellectual. Now? People would hunt Martin Sheen down for daring to make them feel inadequate.

I agree with you on most of that. As someone that’s spent the majority of their life broke, I will stick up for the lower class and say that many of the folks I’ve worked with in menial roles were aware of the world and able to express themselves and interact socially at a level that MAGAts just aren’t able to. I don’t think social status has anything to do with it. MAGA prides itself in rejection of anything bordering on intellectual, across the board.

Its less about class and more about socioeconomics. Kids get out what they put in (and parents go a long way towards teaching kids to get what they can out of school… which is why each generation has more and more developmental issues). But it is a lot easier to learn when you aren’t spending your entire day bouncing between being scared for your life to just trying to keep your heads down as an overworked and underpaid teacher needs to babysit the kids who desperately need more help but can’t get it because public school in “the ghetto”.

It’s the propaganda they have been exposed to. They believe what they are told but have a very difficult time walking through any logic that got them there (hint: there isn’t any) especially in the face of facts. They will usually deny any facts that do not lead to their conclusion.

Ask a Trump supporter what core American values he upholds and you can almost hear their mind grinding gears.

I’m going to keep sharing this until people understand what’s going on: Narcissist Collapse

If you give him even the slightest pushback, he freaks out. The thing is, we need to keep pushing and pushing without letting him yell “Fake News!” or call a reporter “nasty.” Keep pushing and he’ll melt down.

As a German, I had to laugh at “NPD” as this is the name of the predecessor of the current Nazi party AfD, and this is just such a perfect fit.

This chieftain* created secret police out of whole cloth without constitutional justification. That does sort of give opponents pause when trying to figure out how to effectively fight back.

*A friend of mine coined this derogatory use of the word years ago, in reference to the easiest difficulty of Civilization games being Chieftain.

“She’d probably go after people like you because you treat me so unfairly. It’s hate. You have a lot of hate in your heart.”

The narcissism here is incredible - taking a question that is essentially about the United States Attorney General suppressing our supposedly most cherished protected right, and making it about his own “oppression.”

“I’m going to literally, with this gun in my hand, go and kill everyone on this list I have right here! I will shoot them exactly like this” (shoots a reporter)

        Fox news:

“Liberals always exaggerate everything the president says and does, it was obviously a joke! The reporter wanted to die anyway, he was in on the joke but liberals just don’t understand humor because they hate everything and everyone.”

The reason I wouldn’t call myself a free speech absolutist is that I don’t think people should have the right to intentionally lie and mislead people from a position of authority.

The reason this is relevant is that I cannot think of an example of hate speech that is truthful. And the reporter’s question was about whether Trump viewed hate speech as free speech.

The only part of hate speech that’s true is there are quite a few minority groups that have been thoroughly oppressed and traumatized that result in inevitably higher crime statistics.

So you get those assholes who talk about how minorities commit more crimes, but ignore that law enforcement is harder on them, and they come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Nobody has ever provided real evidence that one race or ethnicity is superior to others. We have superficial differences like face shape or skin colour and that’s it. The rest is culture and society.

The answer, of course, is that to Trump (and all his cult) “hate speech” = “anything that is said I don’t like” and “free speech” = “anything that is said I like.” So they can never be the same thing.

I think fraud laws should be extended outwards from economic law and cover mass manipulation. Make politicians legally honest. Provide robust investigative support to prove or disprove intent. Unintentional mass manipulation gets injunctions. Intentional gets fraud convictions.

Lying for political gain should be just as much a criminal fraud as lying for financial gain.
