That’s unfortunate, I liked Oppenheimer. Always sucks to find out someone involved was a total dickweasel.
There’s just so many people that work on movies and finance them that there has got to be a 100℅ chance that every great movie has a dickweasle wedged in the process somewhere.

I’d wager that both Clerks and Kentucky Fried Movie might have avoided dickweasles. That being said, to quote Kevin Smith about Clerks, both of them “are barely movies.”
You gotta separate the art from the artist. When one of my favorite bands got canceled because the lead singer was into the young ladies, I tried to remember there were four other dudes in the band, as well as presumably a lot of behind the scenes folks who assisted with touring and studio production. Same with movies. You can denounce people for being shitty, but at the same time recognize they were a part of something great.
Lol what does “young ladies” mean here? Like teenage adults or like girl kids. If you’re talking about a child abuser, describing him as a man who is “into the young ladies” is super dishonest and makes my skin crawl. If this musician is a child abuser, don’t sugar coat your language.
Gross!
To me a child is single digits. You’re right though, 15 year olds, whatever term encapsulates that age.
Ephebophilia can be used as a distinction from pedophilia. Voicing that distinction makes you sound like a pedophile though.
I don’t think it’s pointless to say there are degrees of wrong.
I know someone who cheated on their spouse with a willing 16 year old, which is legal here. This situation spawned arguments about morality that went on for years. Here’s a question to help those black & white thinkers break out of their shell a bit: which was worse? The 16 year old or the cheating? Does it change anything if the marriage had become sexless (spouse’s fault)? What if the 16 year old was or was not a virgin?
Degrees of wrong.
I think it’s definitely wrong across the board. I honestly think 40 year olds dating 20 year olds is weird and I’m going to think differently of that 40 year old, but the laws have drawn this arbitrary line at 18, and so here we are.
It’s all fucked up, but sexually assaulting a literal child versus sexually assaulting via coercion a 15 year old feels like a distinction worth making. You can be Lost Prophets pedophile or Brand New pedophile, they are vastly different degrees of awful, despite both being awful.
Unfortunately, people really hate nuance when it comes to this topic.
I don’t know about “gotta” but often, I agree. Picasso was a piece of shit and a great artist. I think it’s actually counter productive to take the binary good/bad route in cases like his. The guy is famous already, if we were to try and reverse that, we not only remove art from the world in a sense, but we also decrease society’s overall ability to discuss the light and dark side of things.
Picasso was a piece of shit
and a great artist.FTFY.
Oh God. Every art historian and critic and fan basically disagrees but ok cool
Every art historian and critic and fan
Lol! You mean those people whose entire living depends on pretending the (so-called) “art world” isn’t 90% hype and 10% “Great Man” fallacy?
I can throw a brick on deviantart.com and hit someone that’s more talented than Picasso was (well, you could before it got swamped with fake AI), but none of them gets hyped up by a scam industry selling feelgood to rich people, do they?
Your ignorance (and contrarianism) shows.
If someone can take a look at Picasso’s works and say they suck, their opinion is to be ignored. So thanks for that ❤️
Forget it Jake, it’s Hollywood.
There are other, better kinds of weasel.
As always people of Gaza are the most generous
Fuck James Woods.
He made it out. Damn.
What is the bottom text ranting about? No ceasefire from what? Kill who all?
it’s weird how an outright genocide, surprisingly recognized as such by nearly the entire world as it is happening, would cause people to voluntarily reveal themselves to be just cartoonishly evil.
First I’ve heard of him being a dick. Adding the name to the pile.
Oh he’s far worse than this, and has been for at least a decade. He lost his damned mind a while ago.
Really? Even Family Guy has been making fun of his for his racist rants for like 20 years at this point. He’s like famously one of the biggest dipshits in Hollywood
Family Guy talks a lot of smack about a lot of people I have literally never heard of, and would have to look up.
TBH I thought that was part of the joke about him replacing the dog who is racist because I guess some dogs just are.
He came out as a giant dick like 20 years ago.
James Woods basically having Disney turn Hades into his personal self-insert character actually makes the parts of Kingdom Hearts where you beat the shit out of him that much more rewarding
James Woods needs to stop snorting so much coke. He’s a shitbag cokehead.
Snort some Pepsi
Meh. He’s got money and can move to Texas or maybe Cancun. I hear the weather and electrical grid in Texas is fine this time of year.
He was crying on CNN not sure why
Fuck him - racist piece of shit genocidal privileged maniac.
I don’t know how much input he had into the movie, but the fact that it still included a rather large portion of Oppenheimer trying to prevent a nuclear arms race as well as being persecuted for his support for socialism and uprisings in other countries is quite ironic.
The title executive producer can basically mean anything. It could be a studio head who approved funding for the movie but isn’t involved in production at all. Or it’s given to someone who secured the script and pitched it to a studio and did the pre production. There is no exact definition of the title. Like Steve Jobs is an executive producer on Toy Story only because he bought Pixar and funded the movie. And nowadays you often see one of the actors with an executive producer title to boost the marketing.

Is the point of mentioning Oppenheimer to get people not to buy it or what?
Oppenheimer has been out for a long time. It is what James Woods is most known for. Boycotting will not have much effect anymore. Maybe his next work.
Oppenheimer has been out for a long time.
If a bit over a year is a “long time” then I’m a lot older than you lol.
It is what James Woods is most known for
uh, whhhat? that is certainly not true. I’ve known of him for like 20 years as a (shitty) actor and had no clue he was involved with Oppenheimer whatsoever, despite seeing that movie in the theater. From IMBD:
In some ways, the executive producer isn’t super involved anyhow. My understanding is that they just drum up money and try to persuade suits that a picture should be made. I’m sure he got paid 100 times his worth though…
The only of these I’ve even heard of is the Hercules film.
I am guessing you’re younger than me :)
The Virgin Suicides, for example, was pretty popular and well known to me and my circle.
Videodrome was a pretty big deal in the 80s. It basically made David Cronenberg’s career. He got to do The Dead Zone and The Fly after that. The fact that Debbie Harry was naked in it didn’t hurt. (I wonder if the person above knows who that is?)
Yeah videodrome is one I need to rewatch. I think I only ever saw it 20 years ago, while very baked :)
I gotta admit Debbie Harry isn’t a familiar name to me either 😬
I gotta admit Debbie Harry isn’t a familiar name to me either 😬
I’m sure you’ll find out who she is one way or another.
I doubt any of those movies are currently more known than Oppenheimer. The listed movies have James Woods participating as an actor. Whereas with Oppenheimer, James was bankrolling it. Executive producers can have more influence than producers. It depends whether they decide to be hands-on or only see the movie as an investment.
You can see right there in the IMDB screenshot they use the same language you did (“known for”). I think IMDB has their finger on the pulse of how people talk about entertainment. Many people in the movie industry are most known for things from years ago but still work frequently. Like would you say Christopher Lloyd is most known for whatever semi-popular thing from the last couple of years he had a role in, or Back to the Future?
You are right that EP’s vary in involvement, but even if I had known he was EP in that film, I still would’ve had the same question I originally asked.
Anybody who thinks Christopher Loyd’s legacy is from The Mandelorian needs an iPadless TimeOut.
He was involved with that?
Yeah, Season 3 had a cameo.
Well I don’t know that he’s “known for” John Carpenter’s Vampires. Especially since most people didn’t understand the awesomeness of basically 90 minutes of pure vampire ass-kicking and the movie tanked. But anyway, that is his “most known for” credit.
I mean… How about Casino? How about Nixon? How about Contact? Even Once Upon a Time in America is more notable than that. He was even nominated for two Oscars (Salvador and Ghosts from the Past) and neither of those apparently count as more notable than John Carpenter’s Vampires.
I mean fuck James Woods, but the IMDB is ridiculous.
I can agree with you that the way imdb ranks those “known for” works is wonky at times, but iirc you can click the heading and see a longer list and though the ranking is still weird, it usually does list the movies I would expect.
James Woods is one of those actors I’ve heard mentioned many times and seen in movies occasionally but I’ve not thought too much about him. In this case I saw movies in the list that I had heard of so it didn’t strike me as the wonkiest but I’ll take your word for it.
I’m just saying… two Oscar nominations weren’t mentioned, a movie that bombed at the box office and almost no one remembers got the number one spot.
This does kind of make me want to see if Vampires holds up as a movie now.
Oppenheimer may be well known, but I don’t know if anybody had any idea it was produced by James Woods. He’s not known for that movie by any stretch.
Videodrome is a classic.
Oppenheimer is not what James Woods is most known for… lol.
Like, who makes a movie like that and the most we hear about Japan was a dark joke about how the title character “Thought he was making a rice cooker”… ugh…
No really, this happens in the movie.
Edit: Wait, no I mixed up the real movie with this gag trailer - https://youtu.be/8VgSyKl9vg0
Non-sequitur.
It is what James Woods is most known for.
And Matt Damon is best known for Thor: Love and Thunder?
Sean Connery, best known for the animated film Sir Billi
Michael J. Fox, best known for the 2023 movie “Still”
Jaleel White best known for the game show “Flip Side”
I can do this all day.
