Fascists need an “other” to demonize. They delight in the cruelty towards the “other”. The executive order gives them a sense of accomplishment, further strengthening the group bonds as they enjoy the suffering of the “other” together.

It really is as simple as “the cruelty is the point”. It helps them because they desire to inflict cruelty, and this gives them a method for doing so.

I don’t think he delights in anything but having people tell him how great he is. This is textbook fascism. You got the part right thay they need an other group to demonize, just don’t think there is even that much depth to them.

Oh I should have been more clear: Trump’s supporters delight in cruelty towards others. You’re right that Trump just does whatever makes his supporters cheer for him; he’s a textbook narcissist who craves attention. “Build the wall” for example, was a talking point his advisers gave him. He apparently thought it was stupid, but when his crowds of supporters cheered for it he went on to make it central to his campaign and identity.

And the lesson the rank-and-file never seem to learn is once the other is eliminated, the fascists always turn inward, and begin eliminating each other. Unfortunately, their death toll is always quite high once they implode – sometimes in the millions.

It’s a death cult, though, and no matter how white or pious or privileged you think you are, they will come for you once they run out of ‘proper’ enemies, because without an enemy, fascism is nothing.

It gives justification for discrimination. To make people who disagree or are affected less than human and thus atrocities against them do not count as atrocities.

No different than colonization or slavery. “We know better and will show them the error of their ways/put them in their place by force and systematic discrimination”.

The problem is the Democrats told the truth about the economy. They said it was getting better slowly over time and that prices were never going to go back to what they were before Covid. People would rather hear Trump’s comfortable lies than face the uncomfortable truth.

Regular people associate “the economy” with their own subjective bubble. Regular people are dumb as fuck and the Dems shouldn’t pretend like we are a country with free education where people make collected and informed decisions.

Despite the dems prepping the macro economy to distibute wealth to workers, the workers did not feel that wealth.

It was a good economy for transitioning us to EVs, bad for affording human needs.

The economy was getting better if you base “the economy” on stock values. The way politicians, especially neoliberals, measure the health of the economy is fundamentally misaligned with the experience of the average person. That’s on purpose though. They care more about the wealthy than the people.

That would be valid if there were more than two choices. There were not. Not voting doesn’t free you from moral culpability; it makes you morally culpable for either outcome. Inaction is acceptance of the worst happening.

I hate the rules of the game just as much as you, but people who refuse to play the game (or refuse to learn its rules) are hurting everyone by helping Trump.

Not voting doesn’t tell anything to the Democrats. Not voting doesn’t say “You did bad in Palestine” because for years, not voting meant “I can’t be bothered to vote, and I don’t care who wins”.

If you have a specific message to your politicians, you have to contact them directly. Or protest. Or do something to actually get your message to them.

Someone left-wing deciding not to vote objectively helps Trump. That has nothing to do with attacking anyone, it’s an objective fact.

I’m mad at people so disconnected they don’t care to vote for a Capitolistic oligarchy over a Fascist oligarchy just like I’m mad at the Capitolistic oligarchy for not being better at understanding/representing the voter base. You call for unity about party reform and then use phrases like, “you people are literally helpless.” It comes across as very hippocritical.

I bet there’s a number with at least 2 zeros you are PERSONALLY responsible for dissuading from going to the ballot box.

Maybe the options arent exciting, but they weren’t both coming to drink your milkshake.

Edit: And by the way FUCK YOU for all of that. Basically anywhere an non-maga someone was critical of how the democrats were doing things, the GOP’s plans were further removed from what those particular people wanted.

You pick a location near you and it lists known orgs that provide aid in any manner near you. Some people have used this to organize safe passage out of red states or support if you don’t want to leave. Make sure to verify what the resource is beforehand.

If you’re concerned about commsec I’m happy to contact any aid org on your behalf. I’m also working on an open I2P proxy for activists and at risk populations so that people can communicate and organize efforts in places where their rights are at risk or non-existent.

There’s also Arti nodes or more traditional Tor nodes as well. At least communicate through Signal if you’re going to be organizing efforts and stay off of anything Meta or twitter related.

Edit: the general nature of the site is why I said it may not be of help to you but it might be of help to others. You’re now on a list as a trans person in what is likely to be a trans exclusionist state and may know others in the community who could use any resource. I’m not one to assume your needs and I wish you all the best to you and your husband.

Wait, you’re telling me Republicans (Trump Party) are focusing on hurting minorities via a culture war instead of passing meaningful legislation to help struggling Americans?

The fact that I’ve been witnessing them do this for my entire lifetime didn’t prepare me for this.

Even ignoring socially constructed gender identities, in the case of biological sexes, this is scientifically wrong. The world doesn’t fit into neat little boxes like these people think it does

Reminds me of some state laws that have been voted for, and sometimes even enacted, that defined PI as three (or worse, even 4). Just because an uneducated jokel in the White House signed a piece of paper, scientific reality won’t just bend to his wishes.

What’s next? Will he declare Ohms law illegal? Forbid gravity?

What happened to conservatives? What happened to “my rights end where yours begin”. This shit is asinine, absolute trash.

The trans folks I know are the most joyful, positive people I know. They do not deserve to be stripped of their joy and identity. The next 2 years I suspect will be a long, hard road.

      The next 2 years

Lol. It’s gonna be a lot longer than that. We’re entering a period of American decline that will likely last for a generation. Remember, the majority of voting Americans voted for this. That problem doesn’t just go away.

I’ve always said, religious people and puritans of all stripes seem way too concerned by other people’s genitals. Just like perverts.

Pretty sure this is the year I’ll finally lose my mind. Last night was absolute chaos trying to keep up with the EOs… I am tired. While these get caught up in courts and fought against, they’re going to happen regardless in the interim. So many people are going to be impacted, negatively. The rage…

Please, anyone who reads this, stop posting links to the mobile version of Wikipedia. It doesn’t switch automatically on PC, and I see it happen all the time. Just take the half a second to remove the “.m” from the beginning of the link, save everyone else from the pain of having to be surprised by it and taking the time to do it themselves.

Ignoring the content of the link, and following this passive and erroneous line of discussion: I did it on a phone, not on a PC where you on the PC can more easily change it. Not going to be scolded because I strictly didn’t follow your arbitrary rules.

I only complain because I see it happen a lot, and because Wikipedia automatically corrects links for mobile users but not desktop ones. It’s not intended to be scolding, just a request for you to be more aware of such things.

Then request Wikipedia change their web design for bifurcating mobile users into a subdomain. The CSS is detecting the browser implementation anyways, so do it all on the backend in one single domain.

Well, Trump says there are only two biological genders, but he said nothing about what percentage of each a person is allowed to have.
