For example, I don’t like Will Ferrell in his typical roles. Oh they just drive me batty.
But. I do love Stranger Than Fiction. It’s such a cozy movie.
I’m surprised no one has said Fran Drescher
Sean Penn, Adam Driver and this fart:
Adam Sandler. I personally feel that his humour is aimed at school children - making silly faces and silly voices and basically making fun of the disabled or neuroatypical - but it’s marketed to adults.
But I like 50 First Dates. He’s mostly not a shouting toddler in that.
Tom Cruise, no explanation needed
Nathan Fillion
Campy actor from campy shows that people made their personalities for lack of better alternatives.
Gonna take it in a slightly different direction and pivot the question to music. And in that case, Red Hot Chili Peppers, it’s time to stop. I get it, it was cool and unique. But now, it all sounds the same, and you headline every festival ever and I can’t enjoy the same 5 songs being crammed down my throat for the next 5 decades to come still. Please stop. I know you “can’t stop”, but please, please, stop.
Danny McBride. I can grit my teeth if he’s playing a small role, 30 Minutes or Less was pushing the limit, but he so often plays the same insufferable, arrogant asshole and he plays it too well.
Anya Taylor Joy. Her acting skills include shocked gasps and looking indignant. But something about her face/eye structure just makes her look alien.
Then they put her in Furiosa and gave her that stupid makeup that just accentuates the odd bone structure and now I can’t unsee it.
Leo DiCaprio. No exceptions. The movies he’s been in that I’ve enjoyed were enjoyed despite him and not because of him.
His entire approach to a character is to put on an over-the-top accent and call it a day. I’ve never had the sense that any of his characters were the actual character and weren’t just “Leo with an accent”. I’ll be fair and say that he has improved in recent years, with movies like The Revenant being tolerable.
But holy shit, how his career went anywhere when people saw his “acting” in Titanic and especially Romeo and Juliet, is mind-boggling to me.
I cannot, for the life of me understand the appeal of Russell Crowe. Except I have no problem with his brutish density in L.A. Confidential.
Owen Wilson. He has one tone and always looks spaced out.
John C Riley is an uncomfortable mess in everything he’s in and I cannot stand it. The exception is everything he’s in, which is delightfully uncomfortable.
Vin Diesel. Nothing against the guy personally, but his whole dumb guy thing just irks me.
Jessie eisenberg. He only plays jessie Eisenberg. I hate his whiny delivery. The “Now you see me” movies were awful, and he ruined Lex Luthor.
I can’t think of anything he’s been in that I’ve thought was good.
(Nicholas hoult as LL looks great though)
I came here to say Will Ferrell with the same exception, then read your post.
Stranger Than Fiction shows Will Ferrell is perfectly capable of being a good actor playing interesting roles, but chooses to just play low effort trash.
