I’m NGL, initially i thought “This is probably one of those wacky ads taken out of context.” And no, it’s really really super gross. There’s nothing humorous about it, it’s just a really serious ad about pushing down and threatening a woman who touches your golf club.
It wouldn’t be any better if the victim was a man either. The fact that there’s no other words except ‘the victim’ is telling.
It’s all so… plausible. His shove, her little cry of pain and surprise and fear, the way he leans down and tells her not to touch his club and then stalks away and furiously grabs the club as he leaves. The ad would have been better if it had been escalated to Looney Tunes levels of reaction, but instead they leave it in this alarmingly real area of domestic violence.

That was so much more fucked up than I expected. This has to be intentional, it is very hard to believe that anyone thought this made for a good commercial in any way other than to appeal to chuds who enjoy violence against women. It is blatant and explicit, the mask is off.

Say the guy had just grabbed the woman’s arm or put his arm in front of her to stop her instead. You still have that threat he makes towards her.
Even if that threat was changed to “no one touches my club except me”, you still have that underlying implication of a threat.
There’s no universe that could’ve salvaged this.
I think the only way would be to have it be Bart and Homer replicating the old Butterfinger ads with Homer’s golf club.
So if you walk into an electronics lab and see a piece of equipment with squee 😍 all these cool dials! 😍 and 🥰 🥰 lights!!! 🥰 🥰 and a threatening 😠 sign that says “don’t touch,” and you turn a dial just a little, but you totally didn’t hurt anything, who was in the wrong now that the equipment isn’t calibrated? The person for making the threatening sign? The person for leaving their equipment where any toddler could get to it? Or the the toddler for not having agency enough to know not to touch something that doesn’t belong to them? Are you going to pay for the engineering time it took a team to calibrate the equipment for a First Article Test the next week? You’re going to pay for the customers to fly back home after flying in on a Sunday for a Monday/Tuesday test that now can’t happen?
Just because you don’t assign a value to a golf club doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a value to the person who bought it, trained with it, and went through the effort to carry it somewhere to play golf. And golf clubs or engineering labs aside, you don’t seem like you’ve ever had something broken by someone else before you even got a chance to use it. Are you going to refund the guy’s once in a lifetime golf vacation because you don’t know what forces a graphite shaft can/can’t withstand? Are you going to replace his grandpa’s headcover that he uses because it reminds him of his deceased grandpa teaching him golf?

Yes, golf clubs are expensive. I have friends who golf, and one of the things that has convinced me I don’t want to is them talking about the price of their clubs.
However, I have never yet seen a golf club that is so fragile that it will shatter into pieces when touched (and if you watch the ad, all she’s doing is reaching out to touch them). Nor do they electrocute anyone who touches them. Therefore there is absolutely no fucking reason to assult someone for touching them without asking. Yell at them, maybe. Actually attack them, no.

Why are golfers so weird…?
I get the feeling that the golf is just the structure to get wasted and do mild exercise with tangential friends under the guise of career networking. It beats having to deal with the family.
Nah it’s probably just certain clubs and perhaps even a regional thing. I know people who golf that are perfectly normal. It’s just something fun to do, be out in nature, shoot the shit with friends and have a nice game among friends. They don’t take it very seriously at all.
I went with them once and it was a fun time. The golf course we went to wasn’t some kind of weird exclusive rich people club. Just a nice golf course with a rental place for equipment for visitors and a good restaurant/bar for lunch, drinks and dinner. We stayed for dinner and it was a good time. The golf course was full of regular folk having fun. There were no golf carts on this property, people just walked.
We were behind a group of girls who weren’t very good and spent more time doing selfies and filming than actually playing the game. They had 7 people, which the course normally doesn’t allow, but the management said they thought it wouldn’t be that busy that day so allowed it. Normally they allow 4 people max, maybe 5 as an exception. Otherwise they need to split up as to not block a hole too long causing a line to form behind them. We opted to skip the hole they were on, so we would be in front of them and didn’t have to wait all the time. The girls had enough by lunchtime and spent the rest of the day taking selfies at the bar. So we backtracked and did the hole we missed.
It was really fun, I was just very bad at it. My drives were very good, but my putting was awful. I only had mini-golf experience, so I thought it would be the other way around. But putting on an actual green with a real putter is something completely different from mini-golf it turns out.
This is far closer to my own experience with golfing. It’s like people hear about the absolute worst case scenario of rich assholes, private clubs, and people who take things way too seriously, and then assume that those problems are inherent to golf itself.
The little bit of golfing I’ve done was always at public courses, and it was always just normal people around.
Because it already takes a huge cognitive dissonance to ignore the wanton environmental destruction that their hobby causes. It’s a self-selecting bunch that are able to ignore reality and lie to themselves about how a golf course is “nature” simply because the color green is present.

I almost bought some Taylor Farms salad mix from Costco yesterday before my wife pointed out the brand name (what can I say, it was on sale and I’m a sucker for a discount). Costco is better than most retailers, but there are still plenty of problematic brands that they do carry.

Costco was very clear with the tariffs that they would eat the cost and just sue because they felt it was illegal. Low and behold, it was illegal, and they are getting a refund after not raising costs like everyone else. And their customers loved them for it.
This is actually their entire buisness model as well. They don’t really make much money from their products. They make almost 100% profit from their memberships. If I remember right, over 2/3 of their total profit comes from membership revenue. So if they piss people off and make them cancel their membership, that would really fuck them over.
